Alice Cattaneo

Un dialogo

Museo Archeologico Acqui Terme

€18.00

“Sculpture originates […] from a contradiction, from an impossibility to see which leads you to stop in that suspended space which exists just before a real perception of the world”: with these words Alice Cattaneo accompanies the images of her exhibition at the Museum of Acqui Terme, to which this artist’s book is dedicated.
The photographs and texts tell the story of the exhibition, a sort of imaginary workshop consisting of continuous visual references between the museum's exhibits and the works of Alice Cattaneo: an invitation to reflect on the contrast between the materials and the relationship that exists between the original gesture of an artwork and its relationship with the concepts of fragment / rest / transience / memory / narration. Light structures, fragments of Murano glass or plastic, and sometimes simple paper drawings, are scattered in the space of the display cases and among the great stone objects, in a continuous and fruitful dialogue between past and present.

The book, which contains a catalogue of the works and the artist’s biography, is published for the exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Acqui Terme from 25 May to 23 June 2019, which inaugurates the project “Trasecolare”, a series of exhibitions aimed at bringing together contemporary art and archaeology.
