Bonito Oliva Achille

Achille Bonito Oliva is an Italian art critic, scholar and essayist. After studying law, he graduated in literature and was an active participant of the Gruppo 63 movement. In 1970 he organized the exhibition "Vitalità del negativo" in Rome, inviting renowned Arte Povera artists such as Jannis Kounellis and Michelangelo Pistoletto, and in 1980 he founded the Transavantgarde artistic movement. He explores turning points in art history including mannerism and historic and new avant-gardes. General curator of the Venice Biennale in 1993, he has promoted contemporary art with hundreds of shows and events.
