Born in 1953 in Crotone, Antonio Violetta trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, the city where he still lives and works. He made his debut in 1976 with a solo show at the Galleria Ferrari in Verona, which marked the official start of his artistic career, known for his study and reflection on the material surface in the environment and space. In 1982 he participated in Documenta 7 in Kassel, on the invitation of Germano Celant, and in 1986 at the XLII Venice Biennale. Since 1994 the human figure has become the main feature of his sculpture: real characters, taken from history or mythology, are the main subject of his research, which proceeds mainly using terracotta. In 1997 he exhibited works from this new artistic path for the first time in a personal exhibition at the Galleria Corraini in Mantua.
