Burkhardt François

François Burkhardt, theorist, historian and critic of architecture and design, was born in 1936 in Winterthur (Switzerland). Over the course of forty years he has taught at Austrian, German and Italian institutes and universities. He has been director of several important European cultural institutions including the Kunsthaus in Hamburg, the IDZ (Internationales Design Zentrum) in Berlin and the CCI (Centre de Création Industrielle) of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Alongside his work as an author of essays, he edited the magazines "Traverse", "Domus", "Crossing" and "Rassegna". He has also received numerous awards including the Compasso d'Oro for international career.
