Giosetta Fioroni

I miei cani

Despite their concreteness, the bodies of these dogs are made of mental substance. In place of a liver, kidneys and heart, there are dreams, fantasies, memories and desires... From the introduction by Giorgio Amitrano On the occasion of the anthological exhibition dedicated to Giosetta Fioroni at the International Ceramic Museum of Faenza, we present a book that collects her series of low reliefs of dogs, together with an introduction by Giorgio Amitrano and some poems by Franco Marcoaldi. Giosetta Fioroni discovered the creative possibility of ceramics in 1993 with Maurizio Corraini, in particular at the atelier Bottega Gatti in Faenza, and since that moment a new journey of industry and operosity has begun. A sort of meeting with the earth which is become through the years an experience of work and life. The dogs by Giosetta Fioroni are serial and unique at the same time; serial because of their identical shapes and unique because of their interior landscape, that always changes. They are solid imagination, a sort of crystallization of a world of dreams and imaginations, created by the artist when she confers to each one a story, a memory, a whole world made of ceramic. This can been seen, following Giorgio Amitrano’s words, as a way to go beyond the traditional contrast between body and soul by showing that “the substance of life is mental [...], the body is soul”.
