IN Residence #2 | Matter Matters
Design Dialogues
After the first edition about “Nature Through Artifice“,, the natural continuation of the “open” project IN Residence is dedicated to matter and its use, features and difficulties: “Matter Matters”.
The context has been successfully experimented in the first year: a workshop with talented young designers and even younger students, a cross-examination of reasons and projects in some days of tight work together. The workshop took place at the Du Parc Residence in Turin, a renowned building designed in the early Seventies by architects Laura Petrazzini and Corrado Levi. By working onto the meanings that inspire the form and the material of the project, the design process is analyzed in its most concrete aspects and – at the same time – as one of the most powerful and refined means of communication of contemporary age. Subject of this second edition – the control over matter – focuses onto opportunities and difficulties of matter and its use as one of the most important aspects in industrial design.
The involved designers: FormaFantasma (Eindhoven, The Netherlands), Philippe Malouin (London, UK), Peter Marigold (London, UK), Jo Meesters (Rotterdam, The Netherlands), Studio Glithero (London, UK), Anke Weiss (Amsterdam, The Netherlands). An enclosed dvd, with original music by Max Casacci, documents the most important moments of this experience. Architects Barbara Brondi and Marco Rainò founded brh+, architecture studio which extends its research to design from theoretical analysis to concrete design experience. Among the recent projects: IN Residence / Design Dialogues and Over Design Over / Materia, Tempo e Natura nel design contemporaneo.
