L’alfabeto essenziale di Ugo Guarino

€24.00

Ugo Guarino’s wry and biting cartoons have long annotated articles and comments in the Corriere della Sera, but there was also another side to Guarino and this book, which accompanies the exhibition of the same name, explores the many facets of his work, gathering together the varied graphic material that he has produced since the 1940s, now held in the Fondazione Rizzoli Corriere della Sera archives.

This volume traces the path that led Guarino from a young commentator in Trieste alongside Franco Basaglia in the battle for reform of the Italian mental hospital system. An intellectual journey that is expressed through a number of expressive instruments from time to time. Art and commitment intersect in his work, like two aspects of the same nature that cannot be read separately.

L’alfabeto essenziale di Ugo Guarino, edited by Silvia Magistrali and Francesca Tramma, features pieces by Giulio Montenero, Lino Carpinteri, Silvia Magistrali, Giuseppe Lupo, Maurizio Vitta, Peppe Dell’Acqua, Franco Rotelli, Michele Zanetti, Guido Botteri and Francesca Tramma, testimonies from Alfredo Pigna, Giorgio Lupieri, Fulvio Scaparro, Raffaele Fiengo, Claudio Ernè and Michele Zanetti as well as an anthology of previously published texts by Alfonso Gatto, Enzo Bettiza, Dino Buzzati and Marisa Dalai Emiliani.
