La rivolta delle arance
But why are oranges thrown in Ivrea during Carnival? And what is the story of Violetta, the heroic daughter of the miller whose courage gave rise to the revolt? An illustrated book for adults and children that takes us back to the origins of the legend that gave rise to the historic Battle of Oranges and the oldest medieval carnival in Italy.
With illustrations by Laura Simonati and including a collector's stamp, La rivolta delle arance is the second issue in the 'Storie in viaggio' series inaugurated with Il roseto di re Laurino. A series of illustrated books to explore Italy in a new way starting with stamps, in search of stories and legends to share beyond the local dimension.
In just a few square centimetres, the postage stamp encloses a story that travels and becomes everyone's heritage: hence the idea of a series of small books to collect and send, to rediscover familiar places or discover new ones, each time inspired by a different postage stamp.
