Off Loom | Fiber Art

Arte fuori dal telaio

€20.00

This volume, which accompanies the exhibition at the Museo Nazionale delle Arti e delle Tradizioni Popolari in Rome, is a comprehensive anthology of the best of Italian Fiber Art production, an artistic movement that chooses ancient and modern fibres as its means of expression: wools, silks, cottons, synthetic yarns, as well as paper, straw, twine, metallic and plastic fibres, fibreglass and so on, even arriving at the immaterial concept of fibre optic. An artistic phenomenon which stands out for its originality and the genuine boldness of its research but which, at the same time, compares itself, respectfully, with ancient methods, with the savoir faire.

When observing the works, the range of shapes, colours, patterns, textures and design intentions are surprising: the collection describe a landscape of great, natural and true beauty. We can see skies, marine environments, powerful and disturbing vegetal tangles, but also telluric forces and tectonic memories. Sensuality, but true and domestic love. Fiber Art speaks about life, and all of the artists in Off Loom, as if sharing an intense secret, off up an intense insight.

Curated by Maura PicciauOff Loom contains works by thirty-four artists from several generations of Italian Fiber Art. Accompanying the works are written pieces by Bianca Cimiotta Lami and Lydia Predominato, Mariastella Margozzi, Gina Morandini, Silvana Nota, Maura Picciau, Renata Pompas, Vanna Romualdi, Stefania Severi, Beatrijs Sterk and Mimmo Totaro.
