To commemorate its 20th anniversary, Apice presents, through the eyes of a group of experts, a variety of alternative reading perspectives into the rich collections that comprise the Centre's heritage today. Rare and valuable volumes, including manuscripts, preparatory materials, correspondence, outlines, notes, and author's libraries, provide an interdisciplinary heritage that intersects and overlaps with twentieth-century history.

Particular attention has been paid in Parola, immagine e cultura editoriale. Pubblicazioni di arte contemporanea dalle collezioni di Apice to those collections and publications relating to contemporary art that date between the interwar period and the beginning of the economic boom; pivotal years when art publishing discovered an early and fruitful field of experimentation in contemporary figurative culture.

The book, edited by Viviana Pozzoli and Paolo Rusconi, includes contributions from Giorgio Bacci, Paolo Bossi, Gianluca Camillini, Yves Chevrefils Desbiolles, Barbara Galli, Davide Lacagnina, Antonello Negri, Viviana Pozzoli and Paola Valenti, as well as a large group of illustrations taken from books; a visual atlas directing the reader through the various ways of expressing art and imagery that would define the publishing industry for decades to come.
