Serie Imperiale. Flavio Favelli

Serie Imperiale is the name given to a series of postage stamps released in 1929 and used until 1949, depicting the head of King Victor Emmanuel III. Artist Flavio Favelli chose two of these to overprint with another stamp, thus altering the features of the sovereign. His work consists in enlarging these images and painting them on the walls of obsolete buildings: painting, tearing, filling. In doing so, Favelli overcomes the fixity of the work, which finds new space and time while preserving its hidden history and technique.
