Sonia Costantini. La piuma e la lama
Painting is a journey. Getting to know myself through the experience of doing. Of course, I have tried to understand, I have studied ancient and contemporary texts, but it is experience, even through mistakes, that shapes us over time. Painting is the medium through which I can fathom matter. While form today would take me elsewhere, colour is the frequency with which I interface, the conduit to the essence of the sublime.
Dialogue between Sonia Costantini and Melina Mulas.
The author and art critic Ernesto L. Francalanci talks about the Mantuan artist Sonia Costantini and her practice, which has led her to privilege colour as an absolute value, emphasising the lightness of the brushstroke (the feather) that counterbalances the tame hardness of the shiny spatula (the blade).
At the same time, the photographs by Melina Mulas tell an equally intense story, placing side by side images of the artist with those of the works and of her studio, including working tools, preparatory studies and colour tests.
