Cruciale | Una ricerca di Giulio Iacchetti

Research project by Giulio Iacchetti

€12.00

The shape of the cross lies at the heart of this project by Giulio Iacchetti: his sign (the cross as a symbol of the divine, a meeting place and a centre for relationships) is observed and analyzed as a shape concealed within reality. A symbol with religious and earthly significance, it is also the outcome of a search for form and concept.

By deconstructing objects and spaces, investigating different ways of using certain materials and looking at daily objects through new eyes, Iacchetti creates the shape of the cross by emptying out the alveolar structure of a pierced brick, by blacking out nine postage stamps on a sheet, or by cleverly arranging electrical connectors and their screws to suggest the nails of the Crucifixion. The book contains twenty designs by Giulio Iacchetti created over a five year period. They show how “the design project can be a way of satisfying a market need but it can also be a means for describing your own way of seeing the “things” of the world and being part of them” (Beppe Finessi). The book design is by Leonardo Sonnoli.

The exhibition “Cruciale 20 Croci di Giulio Iacchetti al Museo Diocesano” is on display from April 15th to June 12th 2011 at the Museo Diocesano in Milan.
