Giosetta Fioroni, born in Rome in 1932 from a father, sculptor and mother, painter and puppeteer, she exhibited at the VII Quadriennale of Rome in 1955, then worked as a costume designer for television. In 1956 she was invited to the Venice Biennale, and from that year onwards she was among the protagonists of the so-called Scuola di Piazza del Popolo, with which she shared a pop orientation. She experimented with various artistic techniques, from collage to assemblage and three-dimensional theatres, including the use of video and photography.
An eclectic, she adopted a language characterized by the mixture of letters and symbols, including many hearts, often colourful. She was close to writers and intellectuals including Goffredo Parise, Mario Dondero, Erri De Luca, Alberto Arbasino. Since the nineties, she has been interested in ceramics, collaborating, among others, with Ceramica Gatti from Faenza. In 1993 she presented a solo exhibition at the Venice Biennale.
In the following years, several major exhibitions were dedicated to her work, including the first American retrospective at the Drawing Center in Manhattan in 2013, and a monographic exhibition at the Museo del Novecento in Milan in 2018.
