Giovanni Belgrano was a pedagogist, teacher and educational director. A proponent of active didactics and the principle of 'doing in order to understand', Belgrano collaborated with the Movimento di Cooperazione Educativa - which sought to overhaul the Italian school system by drawing inspiration from Dewey's educational approach - and engaged in several activities to reform primary school programmes. His ongoing research into new teaching strategies, including creating workshops in schools and experimenting with media such as film and camera, stemmed from the conviction that revising educational programmes and reflecting critically on children's needs was a fundamental requirement for a society that sought to renew itself. This experimental research led to his partnership with Bruno Munari, with whom he worked on the design of educational games such as Più e Meno (1970), Strutture (1972), Trasformazioni, (1975), Immagini della realtà (1976), and Otto sequenze da mettere in ordine (1976). Originally produced by Bruno Danese and Jacqueline Vodoz and now reissued by Corraini Edizioni, they are games made up of square cards that can be combined in many ways.
