Nao Tatsumi was born in Fukushima, Japan in 1983. After graduating in Architectural Design of Art from the University of Tsukuba, she started painting in earnest from 2015. She finds and paints fascinating scenes taken from Google Street View using her individual sense of colour and using her own filters. She started the “Street View Journey” series in 2017. Her interest in using Google Street View as a choice of painting motifs came from the idea of being able to see scenes from around the world through a neutral lens. Her paintings are a consequence of looking at the scenes from her subjective point of view. And this is also her approach to contemporary painting. She is based in Tokyo and she has held numerous exhibitions in Japan and abroad.
