La ceramica parallela

€16.00

The Parallel Ceramic is a project organized and promoted by ISIA Design & Communication, which has seen the participation of students from the two-year specialist course in Product design with advanced materials at a ceramic design workshop held by the artist Salvatore Arancio – renowned for his large ceramic installations presented at the 57th Venice Biennale and at the White Chapel in London (among many others) – experimenting with not only the most innovative artistic and design aspects of ceramics but also their translation into interior design pieces that can be modulated and repeated thanks to the 3D printing technology. The results of this original research between art and design were presented during Milan Design Week 2019 in the exhibition The Parallel Ceramic: the title was inspired by Leo Lionni's work Parallel Botany, in which the author imagines a journey into a fantastic but non-existent natural world.

The book is a story in images and texts about the workshop experience and the design of pieces of furniture with a biomorphic character, made with digital fabrication and presented in the form of totemic sculptures. The botanical nature of the park in Faenza and the study of Lionni's book led students to design furniture that increasingly looks towards eco-design. The volume is further enriched with critical essays by Salvatore Arancio, Giovanna Cassese (ISIA president), Daniela Lotta (professor of design history), Marinella Paderni (ISIA director) and Marco Tonelli (art historian and director of Palazzo Collicola in Spoleto).

The project is promoted in collaboration with WASP (technical sponsor and leading company in the 3D printing sector) and with the institutions Ente Ceramica Faenza, Fondazione Banca del Monte and Cassa di Risparmio Faenza and the Contamination Lab of Faenza.
