Besarel, the great sculptor, now rich in fame and glory, when repainting his palace in Astragal, wanted the phrase ‘BELLO IL PAESE OVE SI NASCE’ (Beautiful is the land where you are born) inscribed above the lintel of the entrance door, which has become the motto of Zoldo people all over the world.
Bello è il paese ove si nasce traces the search for a refuge in the Belluno Dolomites, from the Mesolithic burial house of Mondeval to the contemporary gravestones in the shape of Mount Pelmo. How does the sense of belonging to the mountain territory manifest itself in the construction of a house or a cemetery?
Michela Del Longo traces a story that speaks of the places where one feels protected or where one dreams of a refuge, such as caves, trees, dream houses and inhabited houses. All these lairs are located in a valley, to which everyone who has ever lived is called to return.
