Giulio Paolini. Essere o non essere, 1994-95

With this book, the Fondazione Giulio e Anna Paolini launches IN/collezione, a new series dedicated to in-depth reflections on some of Giulio Paolini’s works that belong to its collection.

This inaugural volume examines a work of particular importance in the artist’s recent research, Essere o non essere (1994-95), putting focus on some fundamental characteristics of his poetics. In particular, it brings a theme into play that is dear to Giulio Paolini, one that is featured in his research time and again: the journey towards the work, the design of the work in progress.

Besides Barbara Satre’s essay, Giulio Paolini. Essere o non essere (1994-95) contains an afterword by Maddalena Disch, as well as a section of backmatter including some information on the work’s installations and a short critical anthology.
