The Gonzagas, like many other ruling families at the time, were suffering from the ‘brick disease’, from a systematic willingness to build, which resulted in a grand historical and architectural heritage to which we are heirs and custodians. These assets need care and work, and Le Regge dei Gonzaga Cultural District has taken this task on board, with the support of the Fondazione Cariplo.

Gonzaga. Studies, Project and Sites, edited by Elena Froldi in collaboration with Marcella Luzzara, documents the theoretical and cultural work that has been developed around the conservation of this valuable heritage, spread across fourteen municipalities in the province of Mantua. Historical and technical texts, maps, floor plans and infographics document and give a solid theoretical foundation to the operations. An opportunity for the reworking, study and diffusion of a heritage that must be protected, defended against the carelessness of man and the passing time, but which, going one step further, should be promoted and rediscovered in the modern age so it can go on producing culture and history in the future.
