Space-time, crisis, boundaries: Gravity is a path through these interconnected key-concepts.

After the article published in 1917 by Albert Einstein, imaginary models of universe are disrupted, and so the concepts of space. One hundred years after this publication, MAXXI dedicates an exhibition to one of the figures that influenced the most our contemporary thinking (December 2 - April 29 2018). This project is the result of a recent collaboration of the museum with the Italian Space Agency and the National Institute for Nuclear Physics for the scientific part and with the Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno for the artistic part.

By investigating the connections and the deep analogies between art and science, Gravity. Imagine the Universe after Einstein recounts the developments of the Relativity theory in today's vision of the universe and the fascinating relics that it still produces in the field of art. Through the involvement of international artists, the exhibition pays homage to the scientist who radically changed our knowledge, perception and imagination of the universe. Immersive art and science installations, iconic finds and experiment simulations to move closer to the essence of scientific innovations introduced by Einstein and to unveil the mechanisms that bind all men together, in the search for knowledge through a collective process in which artists and scientists play an equally significant and fundamental role for society.
