The chain of wonders

80 years of FederlegnoArredo history — and 80 years of our country's history. Since 1945, FederlegnoArredo has transformed wood — an ancient and versatile material — into fundamental projects in furniture and design that have marked the evolution of taste and affirmed Italian identity around the world.

This volume, created for the exhibition "FederlegnoArredo 80° | 1945–2025” at Palazzo Piacentini Vaccaro (September 17 – October 3, 2025), celebrates the story of a supply chain that has successfully blended creativity, artisanal skill, and industrial capability. Through the illustrations of Mauro Bubbico — who also designed the commemorative stamp — The Chain of Wonders takes you on a journey through the ingenuity of the “Wood World” — from workbenches and joinery tools to CNC machines — culminating in the forms of Italian design, recognized and admired worldwide.

It is a tribute to the visionary designers and manufacturers who, driven by a passion for experimentation and research, have built a collective heritage of cultural and economic value in Italy and beyond. The story is enriched by critical contributions from Beppe Finessi — curator of the volume — along with Elena Pontiggia and Mario Piazza, who explore Bubbico’s original and revolutionary graphic style in relation to the 20th-century masterpieces that adorn Palazzo Piacentini Vaccaro.
