Moira Ricci 20.12.53 - 10.08.04 is a complex contemporary photographic research, made by Moira Ricci between 2004 and 2014 and based on a powerful reality effect created by the digital fiction. The project and the series of works created at its conclusion constitutes a form of reappropriation of the figure of the lost mother, which already in its title recalls the dates of her birth and death. Also inspired by R. Barthes' 'Camera Lucida', addresses the themes of memory, family, and peasant origins as elements of own identity.

The volume, which the artist herself designed, includes all the 50 photographs in the series. These follow one another in a free sequence according to a simple page layout, with ample white space around the images, reminiscent of the way photographs are present to our eyes when we leaf through a family album. The images, in color and in black and white depending on the era of the source photograph, are accompanied by small meaningful captions that recount small and big moments in the life of the mother.

Overall, a very intimate artist's book but at the same time a publication that by its simplicity and visual strength engages the viewer in a story that mysteriously irretrievably belongs to him. A book capable of becoming an object of affection.
