New India Designscape – a volume that accompanies the exhibition of the same name of the Triennale Design Museum – offers an original selection of the most interesting works by contemporary Indian designers.
The book – curated by Simona Romano, with texts Silvana Annicchiarico, Cristina Bignami e Simona Romano – explains the complexity of a new India, in which interrelationships and the continuous questioning on the project prevail over the fixation on national identity and self-contained figures, such as the masters of previous generations. Young designers are tied to Indian tradition but, at the same time, are heavily influenced by other (mostly Western) contexts. As a result, their projects offer a balance between innovation and the past.
New India Designscape reveals a rich landscape – the Indian designscape – that, through dialogue between modernity and tradition, can produce new content for a global society that is always in constant evolution, but still in search of its ancestral roots.
