that day barefoot in the woods / I stepped on a rock ... it was so old / it told me the story of my grandfather / and the grandfather of my grandfather, / it told the story of us all ...

Rocce (rocks), the first of three quaderni della valle camonica, reveals the secrets of the rocks of this valley whose skin bears the history of our planet: a history of rock carvings, footprints, moss, lichen and insects told through reliefs, plays of texture and perspective that leap out of the pages to be touched, caressed, explored and made our own.

This piece of visual and tactile workmanship, which developed during a workshop devised to illustrate the wonderful heritage of rock engravings of the Camonica Valley, has given life to three “notebooks” on its rocks, figures and the work of the archaeologist. Short texts and pages with stratified drawings in relief actively illustrate the knowledge, customs and expressions of a lively, multifarious popular culture.

Rocce notebook is edited by Elena Turetti, with a design project by Claude Marzotto, Nicola Ballarini and Swan Lefevre. It accompanies the other two books in the series: Figure (figures) and L’archeologo (the archaeologist).
