IN Residence #5 | Little Daily Wonders
Design Dialogues
After the editions on “Nature Through Artifice” (2008), “Matter Matters” (2009), “Visualising Transformation” (2010) and “Sense Memory” (2011), the IN Residence project now turns its attention to “Little Daily Wonders”, adding a new chapter of reflection to an original path of exploration that has few parallels in the contexts of study programmes, debate and analysis dedicated to contemporary design.
This Diary, complimenting the other titles in the series, reports on the guidelines and the outcomes of the workshop on the theme of “wonder”, to be understood as the feeling of unconditional amazement, or surprise, that is stimulated through interaction with an object. Through “Daily Little Wonders”, the opportunity is offered to assess how the business element that is inherent to the design process can have a responsibility to influence the quality of life of each individual, participating in the minute context of the single moments that make up his daily life and equipping his personal habitat with “sensitive” physical presences that, in addition to their functional details, can establish dialogue with his emotions.
The designers involved in “Little Daily Wonders” are: 45 Kilo, Humans Since 1982, Andrea Magnani, Lex Pott, ShiKai Tseng and Bethan Laura Wood.
The last section of this book, arranged as a booklet, collects some notes relating to the four-stage European trip of the collective exhibition “Another Terra / Home Away from Home”, produced by IN Residence, and featuring a special themed collection of new designer objects created specially for the collection.
This volume was selected by the ADI Permanent Design Observatory as an example of the best Italian design put into production.
