Geographies | Representations of the world between art and design
Geografie | Rappresentazioni del mondo tra arte e design
To mark the “Geographies” exhibition, Inventario and the Museo Poldi Pezzoli return to ponder on a specific argument, between design and the visual arts. A reflection that on this occasion revolves around the theme of geographic representation, of cartography, of the graphic depiction (and not just that) of the planet, maps and globes.
A large table with a mirrored surface that incorporated the contour of the Mediterranean Sea, photographs of raised asphalt that become nations in our imagination, globes first made from terracotta and then from multi-faceted cardboard, printed maps and atlases that become supports for some of the most diverse examples of “mixed media on paper” and even more brilliant and outlandish ideas on the depiction of the world, on the most popular themes from our contemporaneity.
Edited by Beppe Finessi, Geographies. Representations of the world between art and design gathers objects created by some of the protagonists of the international design scene – such as Matali Crasset and Giulio Iacchetti, and other from emerging figures such as Drill Design – along with the works of visual artists who have always worked on the “cartographic” story, such as Alighiero Boetti, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Giosetta Fioroni, Claudio Parmiggiani, amongst others. The works are accompanied by critical contributions by Francesco M. Cataluccio, Beppe Finessi, Stefano Salis e Annalisa Zanni.
